Touro University teaming up with New Vista Ranch to build new clinic.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) – Many people would like doctors to spend a little more time with patients.

But what if you had the additional barrier of being mentally or physically challenged?

Plans are now underway for a new clinic, that’s unlike anything in the U.S.

Donna Jean Cooper lives at New Vista Ranch, a group of homes for people with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Donna and her friends spend a lot of time being driven all over the city for medical care. And often, the doctors they see aren’t trained to communicate with people with a mental disability.

Dr. Mitchell Forman is with Touro University Nevada. They are teaming up with New Vista Ranch to build and staff a medical clinic, located right on the New Vista Campus.

“We bring health care to the clients, to the patients, we make it as accessible as possible. We make it as easy as possible for them to get quality care, at the same time providing a phenomenal educational resource for our students,” explained Dr. Forman.

This expansion will also include an assisted living center for seniors with intellectual disabilities.

The new clinic and assisted living home should be complete by next summer.

They will be located on the campus of New Vista, but will be open to anyone with a developmental disability.
